Tonight!
Despite my mixed feelings about the 930 Listening Room and its affiliation with a weird pseudo-punk/Conservative Christian hipster church I will definitely be attending the show tonight to support Jason. The Web and Shellac are playing too, both of whom are awesome. I’ve gotta say, while Shellac is intensely popular around the world, it’s a decidedly midwestern spirit fueling them and I feel like that spirit is what fuels my own music as well. It’s something other regions don’t fully ‘get’ I think instead just hearing the riffage. They’re almost THE ambassadors of midwestern punk rock anymore.
Not sure I’m really explaining it clearly, but some people just don’t get the midwestern spirit.
Touch and Go Records made me who I am today, and I’m proud to be from the (largely) no bullshit midwest within a world of carefully crafted image, pretension, and trend-following world-wide.
Note: This post is partially inspired by the really terrible writing and attempts of psychedelic (“like whoa man!”) genre-creation of David Keenan which I continue to loathe of late.
